Vancouver, Canada's Kiss FM radio station played Rage Against the Machine non-stop for hours last week, on the 29th. The track "Killing in the Name" was the only one played for almost 24 hours.
At times, the DJs would interrupt the repeat to take requests. In some cases, the audience asked for "Killing in the Name" or "some track by Rage Against." When requesting another track, the listeners were simply ignored, and the programming returned to "normal.".
According to the Vancouver Sun (via Spin ), three popular radio presenters were fired. Kevin Lim , Sonia Sidhu , and Tara Jean Stevens had been with the station for over five years. In their last broadcast, which took place on Tuesday the 28th, they said that Kiss “is changing and unfortunately we have been informed that we will not be part of this new chapter.”
The reason the radio station played Rage Against the Machine's music non-stop might seem like a protest due to the song's tone, but it's actually part of a strategy called " stunning ." This happens when the station plans to change its format and starts playing a song of another genre continuously. Kiss FM, until Wednesday the 29th, played only pop, and now, with the RATM song, announces that it will change its style to rock.
Rage Against the Machine is currently preparing to kick off their highly anticipated reunion tour , which begins on July 9th in Wisconsin, United States.
